বৈষম্যবিরোধী ছাত্র আন্দোলনের বিক্ষোভ ঘিরে পুলিশের ভূমিকার জন্য দুঃখ প্রকাশ করেছেন পুলিশের নবনিযুক্ত মহাপরিদর্শক (আইজিপি) মো. ময়নুল ইসলাম। এই আন্দোলন ঘিরে সংঘর্ষ–সহিংসতায় যেসব ছাত্র, সাধারণ মানুষ ও পুলিশ সদস্য হত্যাকাণ্ডের শিকার হয়েছেন, তার প্রতিটি ঘটনার সুষ্ঠু তদন্ত করার প্রতিশ্রুতি দিয়েছেন তিনি। একই সঙ্গে আইনে অর্পিত দায়িত্ব পালনের মাধ্যমে পুলিশকে একটি পেশাদার বাহিনী হিসেবে গড়ে তুলতে কাজ করার প্রতিশ্রুতি দিয়েছেন ময়নুল ইসলাম। আগামীকাল বৃহস্পতিবারের মধ্যে সব পুলিশ সদস্যকে কর্মস্থলে যোগ দেওয়ার নির্দেশ দিয়েছেন তিনি। আইজিপি বলেছেন, আগামী ২৪ ঘণ্টার মধ্যে সব মেট্রোপলিটন, জেলা, নৌ, রেলওয়ে ও হাইওয়ে থানার কর্মকর্তা ও ফোর্সকে নিজ নিজ পুলিশ লাইনসে যোগদানের জন্য নির্দেশ দেওয়া হয়েছে।
